Roatan’s beaches

Tabyana beach, also known as West Bay, is at the westernmost part of the island and is one of the most beautiful beaches of the island. This is one of the places where guests on a cruise gather to snorkel at the heavenly beautiful reef.

At the end of the milelong sandy beach you can observe Iguanas up close, ‘sunning’ themselves on the rugged cliffs.

Whoever would like to can spend time at one of the cozy beach bars, enjoy local food  and dance Merenge to live music with a fantastic view of the Caribbean sea.
The sunsets here are absolutely magnificent! Half Moon Bay Beach is a beautiful beach lined with palm trees. It is at the entrance to West End and offers good snorkeling opportunities on the outer side of the reef.

Palmetto Bay   (known thanks to theGermann TV series ‘Insel der Versuchung – Island of temptation’)  has a long, white, sandy beach. The reef here is quite a bit away from the coast, and is therefore only reachable for snorkelers who are very good swimmers. Sandy Bay invites you to go for long walks on the finely grained sand. A short trip to the Blue Bahia, a small beach bar, is a good idea to enjoy a cool drink or a light snack.

With its 260 square kilometers and approx. 35,000 inhabitants, the island of Roatan is the biggest of the three islands between Utila in the West and Gunanja to the East. Coxen Hole is the capital, a lively place, which is good for shopping, just the same as French Harbour and Oak Ridge.

The long and narrow island is around 52 kilometres long, but only between 3 and 4 kilometres wide, and is surrounded by coral reefs. The water is turquoise-green, the white beaches are like from a dream and the climate is mild throughout the year. Roatan belongs to the relatively unknown Caribbean group of islands Islas de la Bahia. The island is about 60 kilometres away from mainland Honduras and is part of the second largest and most beautiful 200 million year-old coral reef which stretches along the coast from Belize to Honduras. It is known to insiders in the diving world as a paradise for divers. Non-divers can ‘capture’ a different romantic bay every single day. The most beautiful, hidden paradises can be reached on foot, by boat, car, or even on horseback.

In Coxen Hole, the capital, everything runs together. Here you can find bars, restaurants, banks, supermarkets, internet-cafes and good health care. The Cruiseship Dock  downtown is worth a visit.
Mahogany Bay, the dock that only just opened in 2009, is not far from Tobri Divers Resort and serves as a picturesque background in the evenings on the roof-patio. It is then that the gigantic ships leave paradise and say goodbye with thousands of little lights illuminating the Caribbean waters. As Tobri Divers guest you can lay back and relax, knowing that you will be able to enjoy many more wonderful sights with the unique Bavarians.

Oak Ridge, the town in the East, is completely the opposite; scanty reefs shape the picture. A mosaic of multicoloured houses on stilts, simple wooden huts - it is possible to capture a typical fishing village on photograph. It’s mainly people from the island who live and work here, living off fishing and farming animals. Here is a good place to start day tours to the neighbouring islands St. Helena, Morrat or Barbaretta.

French Harbour, known as the gate to the world for people who have sailed or travelled around the world. A visit to the restaurant Gios is a must! This restaurant at the end of the pier is known for its exquisite King Crab and Lobsters. Here you can enjoy endless food in a casual and cozy atmosphere.
